staffJennifer Appollo - Practice Administrator

Practice administrator and veterinary assistant Jennifer Appollo joined us at the West Office almost three years ago, in March of 2010, and has been working professionally with animals for the past 11 years. Jennifer assists the doctors, takes radiographs, answers clients' calls and schedules appointments. Jennifer has a certificate in surgical technology and she also has an associate's degree in arts and science.

"I love the staff members that I work with and the clients and their pets are wonderful," Jennifer said.

She has two dogs, California and Jack, a cat named Roxanne, a horse named Buckshot, a pony named Blaze and a snake called Rio. Jennifer is a fan of horseback riding, hiking, baking and reading.

Anna WeldonAnna T. Weldon - Registered Veterinary Technician

Registered veterinary technician Anna Weldon has been working with animals for over 25 years and joined us here at Asheville Veterinary Associates in January of 2012. She has numerous job responsibilities including managing the intake and discharge of surgery patients and performing all aspects of radiology, operating room and post-operative care. Anna also spends a great deal of time educating pet owners on the importance of preventive care.

With her ability to focus on the task at hand and her unparalleled work ethic, Anna is a consummate professional who appreciates working with a dedicated staff. "I truly like working with Dr. Scott and Dr. Lackey and we have a small and excellent support staff. My abilities are acknowledged and appreciated and I am allowed and encouraged to use them to benefit our clients, patients and hospital," she said.

Anna has an associate's degree in veterinary technology from the State University of New York at Delhi. She is a member of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and the North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians.

At home, Anna enjoys spending time with her dogs, Indy and Pete, and her cat, Stymie. She also enjoys hiking, biking, and participating in any activity involving horses.

Sarah HessSarah Hess - Registered Veterinary Technician

Sarah Hess began working at Asheville Veterinary Associates in January 2014, but she's been employed in the veterinary field since 2000. She attended AB Technical College, receiving an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology and graduating with high honors. Sarah also went on to become licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician. At Asheville Veterinary Associates, Sarah's duties include monitoring anesthesia, assisting doctors in exams and surgeries, performing dental prophylaxis, filling medications, educating clients, and managing inventory. Her favorite parts of the job are educating clients about pets' behaviors and preventative medicine, as well as cleaning dogs' teeth. She finds satisfaction in many different aspects of her job.

"I absolutely love working here," Sarah says. "Asheville Veterinary Associates has great staff and doctors, and everyone here loves what they do and coming to work each day. Good medicine is practiced here, and everyone is very passionate about what they do. It's the best place I've ever worked."

At home Sarah is the pet parent to two dogs, named Butters and Peanut, and two cats, named Triscuit and Bucky. In her free time, she enjoys going hiking, exploring new areas and traveling, and spending quality time with her family.

Jaclyn BurchellJaclyn Burchell - Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary assistant Jaclyn Burchell joined us at Asheville Veterinary Associates West Office in June of 2007. She assists in a variety of procedures, including venipuncture, performing lab work, assisting with x-rays and surgery. Jaclyn is very compassionate and loves to interact with our clients. Jaclyn has graduated from Asheville-Buncombe Technical College's Veterinary Medical Technology Program.

"I like working for Asheville Veterinary Associates because I work with wonderful and caring people," Jaclyn said. "I know that the animals are going to get the best care possible."

Jaclyn has two dogs, Nova and Capone, and two cats, Big Boy Barnaby and Leonardo. She and her friends also foster for Great Dane Friends for Ruff Love at the Asheville Humane Society. When she has a spare moment, Jaclyn relaxes by camping, swimming, attending local concerts and painting.

Noah LindgrenNoah Lindgren - Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary assistant Noah Lindgren joined our team in March of 2015, bringing 18 years of experience in the animal care field. He performs a variety of procedures, including lab work, x-rays, vaccinations, and anesthetic monitoring, as well as aiding in client education. Noah is very knowledgeable of wild and exotic animals from his years of experience in the field. He most enjoys learning about new procedures, diseases, and medicines.

"AVA is a high-quality practice that provides great care and allows its employees to learn and grow," he said.

Noah has a cat, Olive, and a dog named Finn with which he frequents the parks of Asheville. In his free time, Noah enjoys biking and swimming in waterfalls.

Laura PeckLaura Peck - Veterinary Nurse

Veterinary Nurse Laura Peck is responsible for assisting our veterinarians during appointments, running lab work, taking radiographs, performing dental cleanings, and administering anesthesia for our surgical patients.

With 13 years of experience in an animal-related field, Laura joined our team in January 2015. Interestingly, she completed a summer internship at a wildlife rehabilitation center after earning her Bachelor's degree in Biology. She found the experience both educating and interesting, as it allowed her to "care for some very unique animals" - bears, river otters, and bald eagles!

Laura most enjoys assisting in surgery and interacting with our clients. She says: "From the day I interviewed for the job, I knew this was a special hospital I wanted to be a part of."

At home Laura has an eight-year-old Staffordshire Terrier named Tiny Bubbles and a five-year-old orange tabby cat named Todd.

"I have been referred to as the cat whisperer in the past as I seem to handle cats well and enjoy feline medicine," she says.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys hiking with Tiny Bubbles, fishing, reading, cooking, and gardening.

Sumre WilliamsSumre Williams - Veterinary Nurse

Sumre is a full-time veterinary nurse. Her favorite part of her job is interacting with her great co-workers and fantastic clients/patients. Sumre has been in the animal care field for over 20 years, working previously as an animal control officer and within county shelters.

Sumre has five cats and a dog of her own. In her free time, Sumre enjoys roller derby. She became a member of the Blue Ridge Rollergirls, all-stars travel team in 2014, and has been skating since 2010.

Chanda ThomasChanda Thomas - Veterinary Assistant

Veterinary assistant Chanda Thomas has been at Asheville Veterinary Associates since July of 2015 and has over 12 years of experience in the animal care field. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know the patients and their owners. Chanda has an extensive background in emergency care and holds a BA in Sociology from UNC Asheville.

"The people I work with at Asheville Veterinary Associates make all the difference," says Chanda. "I enjoy being part of a team that works together."

At home, Chanda has two cats, Tyler and Kit Kat. She enjoys jewelry making, baking, cooking and playing disc golf in her spare time.

Jody PumroyJody Pumroy - Client Care Coordinator

Jody has been with Asheville Veterinary Associates South Office since October of 2009 and has worked professionally with animals for the past eight years. She helps make the clinic run smoothly by welcoming clients, scheduling appointments and answering questions about the various products we sell.

"The clients are the best thing about working at Asheville Veterinary Associates. They have become family to me," Jody said.

Jody has a variety of pets at home, including two Newfoundland dogs named Fezzik and Romeo, a cattle dog named Angel, three cats named Desiree, Binx and Bob, and a jenday conure parakeet called Spike. Jody relaxes by reading, target shooting and swimming.

Christie MarcheseChristie Marchese - Customer Service Representative

Christie joined the staff at Asheville Veterinary Associates in July 2016. As a customer service representative, she is responsible for clerical tasks, greeting clients and patients, and helping out with any technical difficulty that may arise. Christie says her favorite part of the job is interacting with all the patients. She has an unmistakable sense of humor, and brings a positive attitude to work each and every day.

For the past 15 years, Christie has worked on-and-off in the animal-care field. She's worked as a veterinary assistant, kennel worker and bather, lead bather and kennel manager.

"The staff at Asheville Veterinary Associates is one of the major reasons why I love working where I do, aside from my deep love for animals," Christie says. "They really make coming to work an enjoyable part of my day."

At home, Christie has a 6-year-old fox hound and pit bull mix named Charlie, who is considered the best dog ever. In her free time, she enjoys taking Charlie to the dog park, listening to music, horticulture, snowboarding and repairing small electronics.
